Homemade Coconut Oil Toothpaste

So a few months ago I started using homemade toothpaste. It took some getting used to by me and my husband, but I have to say my teeth are sparkling. I thought I would share my discovery and the recipe to all who are interested. Word to the wise for a better, deeper cleaning I would only use 2 tablespoons of coconut oil. For something that isn't as abrasive you might want to dilute it with additional coconut oil. I have read so much bad stuff on Fluoride that I thought I would give this a whirl.  We will see what my dentist says, but honestly my teeth feel like I just came from the dentist clean. Amazing!

Recipe for Homemade Toothpaste

2-3 tablespoons coconut oil
3 tablespoons baking soda
1/2 small packet of stevia powder
Peppermint Oil use whatever works...I personally use about 15 drops.

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl and voila toothpaste!

I use non fluoride toothpaste for the kids and it's hard to find around her so I can't wait to try out this recipe. Thanks!

I've made my own toothpaste for years, but it's always with just baking soda and bentonite powder (very fine clay).

Your recipe sounds so much nicer. I can't wait to try it.

Where do you get your coconut oil? It can easily be rancid since it's not the kind of thing that sells fast.

I saw coconut oil at our local Walmart it was in the baking isle. Coconut oil has definitely grown in popularity lately.

I order mine on Amazon, I use Nutiva's Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. You can use the stuff at walmart too. I use that stuff for frying, it is more processed than the VCO, but still good. Since I cook with it I go for the VCO. The shelf life on Coconut Oil is about 2-3 years so you should be good. We go through a 54fl oz bucket about every other month so it doesn't have a chance to go bad in this household.

I'm definitely going to have to try this, I've use the baking soda with peroxide before, but never coconut oil or the other ingredients. Oh by the way I'm a new GFC follower, I found you from blogfrog, also following you on there. Really enjoying your blog look forward to reading more.
